You have got to be kidding me . . .

I think I'm being punished for semi-complaining about my busy day yesterday.  I was looking forward to actually sleeping in this morning (for me this means sleeping past 7:00 a.m.) when I was awakened by my children standing next to my bed saying "Mom, there's water pouring into the laundry room!"

I ran downstairs to a waterfall cascading from the ceiling of the laundry room and a roomful of water which had seeped past the door and soaked the carpet in the hallway.  At first I panicked, shouting "What do I do? What do I do?"  Then logic kicked in and I scrambled into the crawl space and shut-off the main water valve, thinking how fortunate I was to have been paying attention when I was told about this valve years ago when we first bought the house.

So much for my relaxing morning, right?  The worst was the two inches of water in the kitty litter boxes, plus the wet kitty litter which was spread all over the floor.  From 7 - 9 a.m. I was mopping, sopping, scrubbing, and moving disgusting piles of soaked laundry and other nasty things out of the laundry room so I could get all the water up.  There is a horrible smell in there which makes me wonder what was in the water that was pouring out of the ceiling.  I wish I could wash my hands but the water is shut off.  Ugh.

So here it is 11:30 and I'm still waiting for the plumber to call.  We escaped the chaos for about an hour by going to Panera and drowning our sorrows with coffee and spinach/artichoke souffles (chocolate croissant and milk for Ella).  I keep thinking "Hey!  We needed new carpet anyway - maybe this is a sign!"

I'm kind of proud of myself for not freaking out or panicking.  Nothing was really damaged - it's just a big pain in the you-know-what to clean it all up.  Not really how I envisioned my Sunday - but that's life.  I just hope the bill from the plumber isn't too big.  Now it's just a matter of waiting and more mopping and sopping.
