Out of the Mouths of Babes: Random Stuff

Saturday night after getting up at the crack of dawn for Jack's 7 a.m. hockey playoff game, going to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Old Town and then going to Jack's second playoff game - this is what Jack said to me as I was tucking him in:

Jack:  Mom, most kids don't usually say things like this . . .

Me:  Like what?

Jack: Well, I think I'm starting to realize how much you and Dad actually do for us.  I mean, you take me to all my hockey games, you give us food, you go to work so we have money to pay for our house and for other stuff.  You guys just do so much.

Me:  (fighting back tears) Wow, Jack - you are such a smart boy.

Jack:  Well, you're a smart lady.

Where did I get this kid?  He is just simply amazing.  Words can't express how I feel about my little boy.

Another funny moment, this time involving Ella.  I was in the bathroom last night, brushing my teeth when I noticed in the mirror that Ella was standing behind me.  I turned around and saw that her face was red and tear-stained.

Me:  Ella, what's wrong?  Why are you crying?

Ella:  (sobbing)  I want a younger sister!!!

Me:  What?  Why are you saying that?  What made you think of that?

Ella:  I just want one!

Me:  Well, what if it ended up being a younger brother?

Ella:  I don't care - I just want a baby!  (sobbing some more)  Why can't God bring us one?

Me:  Well, I think God gave us two really wonderful babies already.  Besides, Mommy is 40 years old.  I'm getting a little too old to have another baby.

Ella:  You're not too old.  40 is a good size.

For some reason Ella has been on this kick that we need to have another baby.  I keep telling her that she has four little cousins who are either toddlers or babies but she wants one to live in our house.  Hopefully she gets over it because that is not in the plan.  It breaks my heart when she cries like that, but I must stand my ground.  No more babies!
