So much stuff to write about . . . where to begin?
I'm a Big Dork
We were driving to visit a friend in Maryland the other day which meant the kids and I were in the car together for almost an hour. This usually results in conversations like this one . . .
Jack: Mom, based on all your childhood stories, you were definitely a big dork. And a nerd.
Me: Jack, why would you say that?
Jack: Well, you had puffy hair . . .
Ella: And huge dorky glasses!
Jack: And braces and all you did was read books.
Me: What's wrong with reading books?
Jack: Nothing. I think you were just kind of dorky.
Ella: Yeah, with big dorky glasses!
Me: I don't think I looked that bad.
Jack: People just look better now than they did back then.
Me: Do you think I'm still a dork?
Jack: No, now you're normal. You turned out pretty well.
Me: Gee, thanks.
Jack: I guess I can tell the dorks at school that they'll turn out ok too.
Secrets From the Back Seat
On our way to a waterpark yesterday for Jack's birthday, we had four boys in the car plus Ella. At one point I looked back and Ella was gazing at the boys adoringly, occasionally piping up in her little bird voice in an attempt to contribute to their conversations. They basically ignored her. Later at the waterpark I had the following conversation with her.
Me: So Ella, it looked like you were having fun in the back of the car talking with the boys.
Ella: (giggle)
Me: So what were you all talking about?
Ella: (giggling harder)
Me: So?
Ella: (giggle) A woman never tells.
Yep, that's what she said. I can't make this stuff up. I really can't.
Babies are Born in the Spring and People are Animals
I had the following conversation in the car today with Jack as we talked about his birthday.
Me: So how was your birthday today? Did a lot of people at school wish you a happy birthday?
Jack: Yeah. You won't believe how many people at school have birthdays in June. Why are so many people born in June?
Me: I don't know.
Jack: Isn't it true that most babies are born in the spring?
Me: (laughing) No, babies can be born anytime. I think you're thinking about farm animals.
Jack: People sometimes act like farm animals.
I'm not sure what he meant by that. The possibilities are endless.

I think this is great! I love the out of mouths of babes posts. Jack is getting so big! I can't believe he is already 12.
I should keep a quote book for their piano lessons. They always keep me laughing.
What a bunch of great stories! Jack is right, people DO act like farm animals!
I am here from the 15 Day Blog Challenge... glad to have found you!
