Out of the Mouths of Babes: Why am I always dead in these scenarios?

Once again, priceless commentary by my children.  This particular moment took place this morning at the breakfast table.  For some wonderful and unexplained reason, Jack decided to make me breakfast this morning.  He toasted some chocolate chip Eggo waffles, put them on a plate with some syrup, and even placed a knife, fork and napkin by my plate.

Me:  Wow, Jack, this is great.  You're really taking care of me.
Jack:  Yeah.
Me:  So will you take care of me when I'm an old lady?
Jack:  Yeah, if you're still alive.
Me:  (speechless!)

For some reason, when we talk about the future, I always end up dead.  Here is another example - I posted this story on my facebook page last October, but the scenario is so similar I am reposting it here.

(October 29, 2010)
This conversation took place this morning at the breakfast table, 2 days before Ella's 6th birthday.

Me:  Two more days until you turn 6!
Ella:  (grunt)
Me:  You're such a big girl!
Ella:  I wish I was 4 years old turning 5.
Me:  Why?
Ella:  Because I want to stay a little girl.
Me:  You still have lots of growing to do - you'll be a little girl for a while still.
Ella:  But when I get bigger, you won't be my mama anymore.
Me:  Of course I will!  I'll always be your mama, no matter how old you are.
Ella:  Not when I'm a grandma.
Me:  Sure - even when you're a grandma, I'll still be your mama.
Ella:  But you'll be dead.

See?  Again I'm dead.  Or not alive.  Same thing.  Wouldn't it be nice if you could walk around talking like a kid all the time?  I would love to just say things exactly as they are, no filters, no glossing over, none of that.  Kids are amazing.  Especially mine, of course.
