Wow. Just WOW. My last post was literally written 5 days before everything shut down for Covid last year. As I re-read it just now it was apparent that I had NO FREAKING CLUE what was coming. And I never wrote a single thing about it either.
Hmmm - well, there is no way I am going to rehash an entire year gone by. We all know what happened last year when the world shut down, Covid took hold and X-Y-Z happened. I think to catch myself up so I can move forward with these posts I'll just make a nice concise list of the major events of the year that had an impact on me and my family. Here goes!! Hopefully this will get me back to some regular posting - I miss writing things down.
March 2020: World shuts down, college boy comes home after Spring Break and little did we know we'd have him home with us for 5 whole months. My husband John starts working from home - and a year and a half later he is still HERE!! It's crazy - I'm so used to him working from home now that if he ever goes back, it will feel very strange.
April 2020: By now we hadn't seen anyone for a month - including my mom who was stuck in her house and staying away from people. We started virtual family game nights (those were actually really fun!) via ZOOM and suddenly we were seeing our extended family members more often.
May 2020: I turned 50! Sadly my original plans fell through due to Covid - but John organized a surprise drive by parade for me and tons of people showed up and drove past my house to wish me happy birthday while I wore a sombrero and drank margaritas. A reporter from the Washington Post showed up and a month later we were featured in a photo spread about how people are doing things during Covid!
June 2020: We had nothing else to do so we decided to adopt a dog! We spent June scouring the internet for possible pups and zeroed in on Roo who had been rescued in Mississippi and brought to Virginia to be adopted. We fell in love with him on a Facetime call and ended up picking him up in . . . . . .
July 2020: We adopted little Roo on July 1!! Such a little cutie.
Lots of things were cancelled in July including Ella's summer camp. We managed to get her together with her friends anyway and John and I rented an RV and took it to Kelley's Island in Lake Erie, Ohio. Poor Roo was very confused since we ended up taking him with us after only having him 2 weeks. There is so much I could write about this trip - but the one thing that came out of it was we decided there was NO WAY we were ever renting an RV again and that we needed one of our own. Foreshadowing . . . . .
August 2020: we still managed to take our trip to the beach despite warnings not to leave our state. We managed to social distance fairly well and for once everyone wasn't sitting right on top of us at the beach which was kind of nice. Had a scary moment when Roo escaped and ran across a busy road - miraculously he survived (I on the other hand cried for about a half hour afterwards).
Fall 2020: our son went back to college but school was all online. Our daughter went back to school but in her bedroom, again online. At first we thought this might really suck - but they both took it in stride and made it work.
December 2020: Sadly we lost John's cousin Mike to Covid. This was very tough for John who considered Mike somewhat of an older brother. Tough way to end a difficult year. We will definitely miss his crazy antics and so glad we were able to stop and see him in 2015 on our RV trip.
2021: I can't remember when this happened - but sometime at the start of 2021 we decided this was IT - we were ready to buy a small travel trailer RV!! We put down a deposit on a tiny Riverside Retro 135 and waited with anticipation for it to be delivered. We waited and waited and waited . . . . .
It was not meant to be. Sometime in May our dealer called and said sorry, this RV has no delivery date and we're refunding your deposit. We scrambled to find something else due to summer plans that were based on us having an RV to camp in!!! We ended up with this . . . . . .
There is SOOOO much more that I could say right now - but it'll have to wait. It's hard to summarize a year and a half and I don't want to take too much time with the details. I'll try to write more regularly and fill in the blanks. I'd love to chronicle our adventures with our new toy!! We love RV life so far and can't wait to see where this takes us.
Kids are still rolling their eyes at us - but oh well!! some day they'll appreciate our adventurous spirit.
