Another week came and went - where does the time go?? Highlights from this week:
1. 14th anniversary of our first "real" date: Fourteen years ago on Jan. 17th, my husband John and I went on our first official date. What I mean by official is that it was the first date that actually led to something further - we'd been out plenty of times before but it never went anywhere. We started off at Hard Times Cafe, then played some pool at Bardo's, then cabbed it to Georgetown and saw Fighting Gravity play at The Bayou. Sadly The Bayou is now a bunch of overpriced condos - I can't believe they tore that place down. Funniest thing that happened that night was during our cab ride to Georgetown when our cab driver said to us, in a very heavy accent, "Are you going to the Integration?" He meant Inauguration. He also told John that I was "Excellent girl!" I guess John listened to him.
2. Our cats turned 13: Our first babies, Dewey and Dallas, are now 13 years old. Apparently in cat years that's the equivalent of being a 68 year old human being. John googled "life expectancy of cats" and was horrified to learn that some cats live to be as old as 21 year old. He was then even more horrified to discover that some crazy cat lived to be 36! As you've probably guess, he is not the biggest cat-lover, although I catch him cuddling our cats all the time. Our cat Dallas likes to use his head as a pillow at night - it's a pretty comical.
3. Thumb-sucking battle improves: Ella's attempt to quit sucking her thumb is going extremely well. I haven't seen her wear her fuzzy purple glove for days and she doesn't even talk about her thumb anymore. Let's hope this lasts.
4. Impromptu sleepover with brother-in-law's family: My husband's brother, wife and two kids under the age of 2 spent the night last minute due to toxic paint fumes at their house. I prepared myself for the worst, expecting to be woken up more than once by a crying baby or toddler. Surprisingly, all was quiet when I finally went to bed, although I put earplugs in my ears just to be safe. When I woke up at 7:30 a.m. I thought "Wow, amazing! Everyone slept through the night. This is great." Later I found out that my earplugs really do work after all. I'm glad I'm past those days of toddlers and newborns. They are so cute - but exhausting at the same time.
Speaking of exhausted, I think I'll wrap this up. I just don't have the energy today. Definitely ready for the weekend.
