The title of this blog really has nothing to do with what I'm writing about today, except that I was getting bored of naming my Friday blogs "Week in Review". So here you go - Happy Happy Joy Joy! Takes me back to my last year in college and watching Ren and Stimpy at 3 a.m.
So here we are, another Friday. A beautiful sunny March afternoon - the birds are chirping, not a cloud in the sky. Even the fact that one of my patients did not answer the door or the phone today even though I KNEW she was in there can't put a damper on the lovely happy feeling inside of me. So there.
Today John and I both walked the kids to school and as we watched them walk away from us as we waited at the corner I couldn't help but notice how tall they both are. Ella is only half a head shorter than Jack - what is going on here? Where are my babies? They looked so happy walking together it made me sad for a moment to think that next year will be the last year they will ever be in the same school together. Sniff. My babies.
Here are some highlights from the week . . .
Aches and Pains (aka - I'm falling apart)
Guess what I did exactly two weeks to the day after I threw my back out during my cathartic run during piano lessons. Yes, I threw it out again. This time I was performing the oh-so-strenuous task of reaching across my body to put on my seatbelt. Tweak. Ouch. This time it took a few extra days to feel better and even now I'm still a bit uncertain about particular motions of my spine. I might have to bite the bullet and go see a doctor.
When I was about 12 years old, I was told I had scoliosis. I was immediately thrown into a panic, having just read "Deenie" by Judy Blume. Visions of lurching around my school wearing a horrific metal brace danced through my head. You can imagine my relief when the doctor said all I'd have to do were a few exercises every day and that the only time it would really be a problem for me would be if I became pregnant or obese.
Well, I think he was wrong. I think the mild "C-curve" in my spine has finally reared its ugly head and my spine is saying "Ok, I've been carrying this load for over forty years now and one side is not aligned with the other so to hell with it!" And then it goes Tweak. Ugh.
Firsts for Ella
Dear little Ella had a week of momentous firsts. Earlier this week we attended Ella's first art show. Her art teacher picked a very colorful piece to be in the local public school art show. Ella says it's a painting of her and "Sessa" (my sister) eating donuts. I love it. My artistic mother is thrilled that her art gene has been passed on to her little granddaughter.
This morning Ella had another first. She's been playing soccer since last fall and had yet to score a goal. She's great at handling the ball but she's not very aggressive so anytime she gets her foot on the ball she tends to lose it. Today she got right in there and kicked away until the ball finally went into the net! I was so proud of her. After watching Ella run circles around the indoor field it was gratifying to see her score. I was getting a little worried that it would never happen. She was starting to remind me of myself as a child, blocking her face with her arms every time the ball would fly toward her. I shouldn't have worried. Ella's way tougher than I ever was.
Stop Everything - Ledo Pizza is Coming!
I'm embarrassed to admit that one of the most exciting moments this week occurred when I noticed the neon yellow banner at the corner of the intersection near my house announcing "Ledo Pizza Coming Soon!" I did a double take as I drove by and almost rear-ended someone. Then I pulled over and quickly texted my husband the incredible news. Ledo Pizza! Woohoo - another chain restaurant to choose from in this thriving metropolis. His response? "Can you say date night?" Yep, we are both pathetic.
All kidding aside, Ledo Pizza has a special place in my heart. When John and I first started dating a long, long, LONG time ago, we enjoyed many a lazy afternoon at the Ledo Pizza near my townhouse where I lived, drinking beers and eating onion straws. So even though it's a chain, it's OUR chain. Plus we can walk there from our house! Oh, the thrills of being able to walk somewhere when you live in suburbia.
Cats Rule the House Again
The pukers are out of the laundry room now that their claws have been safely adorned with colorful claw covers. My girl cat is sporting the pink glittery look while I allowed my boy cat to retain his masculinity with dark gray claws, despite the fact that he is technically neutered. My new rug is safe once again. As for the vomiting, it's been surprisingly quiet lately. Now that I've said that I'm sure that I will step right into a fresh, warm pile of it with my bare feet sometime in the near future.
Now time to curl up on this rainy afternoon and do absolutely nothing. Happy happy joy joy for sure.
